As the smoke clears from the epic battle, we venture through a panoply of monsters, machines, and their monumental feats. IF Creative Director Miguel Lee and his team worked closely with the film’s director Guillermo del Toro to present his colossal creations in stylistic fashion, combining macro-photography and a graphic novel aesthetic in stereoscopic 3D.
The film is produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. and was released on July 12, 2013 including releases in 3-D and IMAX 3D.
It was released to generally positive reviews; the visual effects and action sequences were highly praised. The film received average box office returns in the United States, but was highly successful in other territories, earning more than $407 million worldwide.

The film is set in the 2020s, when Earth is at war with the Kaijus,colossal monsters which have emerged from an interdimensional portal on the floor of the Pacific Ocean. To combat the monsters, humanity unites to create the Jaegers: gigantic humanoid mecha, each controlled by two pilots whose minds are joined by a neural bridge. Focusing on the war’s later days, the story follows Raleigh Becket, a washed-up Jaeger pilot called out of retirement and teamed with rookie pilot Mako Mori as part of a last-ditch effort to defeat the Kaijus.
